98's Player Donates Football Memorabilia To Vanessa Riddle Appeal

I was browsing through the pages of a copy of yesterdays Daily Record when I caught this story which I thought I should share with you all. Many of you will know immediately that Colin McLaren is one of the players in our 98's squad. Colin won the clubs Special Achievement award three years ago having just come through chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.

As you can see from the article Colin has donated a large amount of football memorabilia that he has collected in recent years to the Vanessa Riddle appeal. Vanessa is an 11 year old girl who was in hospital at the same time as Colin. Unfortunately Vanessa suffered a relapse and now urgently needs to raise £500,000 to get specialist life saving treatment in the US that isn't available on the NHS.

I'm sure you will all agree it's a tremendous gesture by Colin and if you too would like to make a donation to the Vanessa Riddle appeal you can find out more details on this website

LFDA AGM

There has been loads of e-mails about it from Willie Scott but I thought I'd publish it on the website too just to make sure all teams and coaches had the information. The LFDA AGM is next Sunday - that's Sunday the 12th of February - at the Murray Halls in East Kilbride at 7pm. Each team has to have one representative there and if they aren't represented LFDA will fine the team as it is a requirement of the teams membership of LFDA.

For those who haven't been the monthly meetings usually take around 1 hour although it can sometimes run on a bit longer if there are issues being raised from the floor. I'd imagine the AGM would be of a similar length. There are usually some registration books near the door, they need to be signed by the team representative to stop the club from being fined.

Can all teams please ensure they have a representative present.

WWW2002 Week 5th February 2012 and weekly look back

Diary planner for week 5th Feb 2012

Monday 6th Feb 2012 training at Clydevalley high 6pm to 7:45PM

Wednesday 8th Feb 2012 training at WSC 3g 6pm to 7pm (1hr only)

Last week the 2002s played a couple of 40 minute friendlies vs Heart of Midlothian on Sunday night indoors at Ravenscraig and put in a super performance winning 1 game losing the other. The 2002s then took a squad to play Cleland 2003 on Tuesday night inside at Ravenscraig and again put in a strong performance with Mathew a rock at the back. On Wednesday night a couple of training games at WSC 3g were played against Mossend BC with a mixed bag of performances from the two squads and players. Thursday night another friendly against Mossend 2002 at Braidhurst (Robbie F a new cf?) followed on Saturday again down at WSC with a blues vs yellows and a friendly vs Cleland 2002s shows how busy the week previous was for boys and coaches. All cobwebs are truly done and dusted given all boys also put in a training shift on Monday night at Clydevalley as well as playing these games. Special mentions to all boys given how cold the weather was for out door games never mind even the ice box that is indoor Ravenscraig. Players who really put in consistently strong performances this week Lee, Lewis and Michael D (who was a one man brick wall in goal against Mossend on Wednesday night). All boys keep up the good work. Back to normal this week with training sessions only. The league season start approaches and 2002s are looking good for a successful 2nd half of the campaign.

Motherwell Star Tom Hately At 98's Training Session

Work committments have meant that I've missed the last few 98's training session but last night I arrived down at Wishaw Sports Centre to be greeted with the sight of a few new trialists being put through their paces. Unfortunately one of them didn't quite come up to scratch. The lad - Tom Hateley - had forgotten his football boots, shin pads, a football strip, and he had a facial hair growth that would have done me proud, never mind a 13 year old. Suspecting he might be slightly over age and perhaps not quite up to standard the coaches sent him packing. As I understand it he's now going to go back to Motherwell FC where apparently he's going to feature in their first team as they beat Renfrewshires worst team - Morton.

Being serious, Tom Hateley was down to do us a little bit of a favour for our team captain, Euan Woods. Euan had a bit of a tough time at the tail end of 2011. His Dad, Brian Woods, passed away tragically and suddenly just before Christmas. Anyone who has lost a loved one knows just how important it can be that you have friends and colleagues that support you through times like that and although the team sent a bouquet of flowers, and loads of messages of sympathy and support it just seemed too little somehow. We could never replace his Dad or make everything better but at least we could get that smile back on his face - even if just for a wee while.

So a few phone calls later and Robert Park - our clubs superb photographer - managed to fix up a small surprise. Euan is a big Motherwell and Liverpool fan so Motherwell star Tom Hateley visited the 98's at our training session and with him he brought a Liverpool shirt, signed by Liverpool player and ex St Mirren legend - Charlie Adam. As you can see from the photo's below Tom's appearance certainly seemed to have that magical effect.

On behalf of all the coaches and players at the club, and from Euan as well can I just pass on our thanks to Robert Park, to Tom Hateley, to Charlie Adam and to agent Tony Asghar who drove the top to Liverpool and back.

Wishaw 19s Victorious in Scottish Quarters

Wishaw Wycombe 19s 1 - 0 Jerviston 19s

Victory today in the Scottish Cup takes Wishaw to the last 4 of the countries premier competition. What makes it even more of an achievement is the fact that this is our first year at 19s, having stepped up from 17s last year.

The much awaited tie went ahead at Logan's Road, Motherwell in front of a few hundred fans eager to see their teams do well. Jerviston probably started as favourites, if for nothing else because they have played at this level for a season already.

Wishaw started the brighter with some neat football and some good possession. The first chance fell to Jamie Moir , who took control of the ball inside the Jerviston box before skillfully beating the last defender - uncharacteristically he lashed the ball wide of the goal.
