2000s v Gow Valley

Well played boys today in the 1 1 draw with Gow Valley. An excellent performance from the team who were denied a deserved victory by good goalkeeping, missed chances and some back luck.

After a fairly even first half Gow Valley took the lead early in the second half against the run of play when a cross was knocked down in the box and the Wishaw defense was slow to react, alonging the opposition forward to finish.

A great reaction from Wishaw followed as the boys completely dominated the rest of the game. Missed chances and goal line clearances ensued before with just 6 mins left the boys got the equaliser they richely deserved. Chris Reid took advantage of a missed clearance to curl a great finish past the Gow Valley keeper.

Well done boys on your football and the way you conducted yourselves you were a credit to your club.

Wishaw Girls u13s Excellent Debut Performance in u13s Leanne Ross League

Wishaw Wycombe Girls kicked off their first ever under 13 league game with a convincing win over Bo’ness United at home. The Wishaw Girls won centre and the game kicked off from the spot by Stacey Peel and Keeley McSeveney within seconds, the WWG found themselves on the front foot right away as Rachael Armit burst forward forcing the away keeper into fine save.  Seconds later, the away keeper was called into action again as a shot was hit from the from Wishaws midfielder, just inside the box however the keeper saw it coming and tipped it on to the bar and out it went for a corner. As the pressure was building on the Bo’ness goal, it didn't take long for Wishaw to break the deadlock. On 4 minutes Rachael Armit poked the ball into the net from only a few yards out. Then on 8 minutes Bo’ness moved the ball over the top of the Wishaw defence, goalkeeper Gemma Calderwood came rushing out to clear the danger and collided with the Bo’ness striker, as she found her feet again, the ball had ricochet off a United player and fell kindly to the feet of the United playmaker no.7, who found the corner and the only part of goal the brave shot stopper couldn't reach. 1-1.No more than 13 minutes were on the clock as a Stacey Peel corner was whipped in from the right and Bethany Orr found herself unmarked at the back post to nudge the ball over the line. The home sides lead restored. Three minutes later Rachael Armit got her second and Wishaws 3rd of the match.  Brilliant passing play throughout the team saw the midfielder finish off the move.   Gemma Calderwood was called into action to make a fine save from the Bo’ness striker, the ball was released and Wishaw Wycombe broke forward – good play saw the ball land at the feet of Keeley McSeveney standing outside the box, she hit the ball on the half volley and saw it spin just over the bar. A midfield battle continued and a few stoppages of play broke up any fluency in the game for both teams.  But as half time loomed, Wishaw extended their lead on 24 minutes through Captain Stacey Peel who fired across goal into the net to make it 4-1 going into the break. The second half got under way similar to how the first half ended with WWG pushing forward coming close to scoring several times.  On 40 minutes, Wishaw made three substitutions – Nicole Docherty replacing the lone striker Keeley McSeveney; Catherine Watt taking over Gemma Calderwoods place between the sticks and Chelsea Martin replaced Kimmy Dougal, whom was solid at the back for Wishaw and partnered Megan Ross at the back.  As the subs gelled into the game. Forty one minutes in, Bethany Orr got on the score sheet again as she found the roof of the net with a close strike at goal. 5-1 to Wishaw Wycombe.

With only 19 minutes to play the Wishaw girls found themselves threatening the Bo’ness goal more and more, as they pushed forward – with shots from Rachael Armit, Stacey Peel and Nicole Docherty all going very close.  The spectators watched on as Wishaw Wycombe Girls knocked the ball around, finding space continuously down the right hand side and all the girls were linking up well and finding space to move into.  The defence, Megan Ross and Chelsea Martin were calm at the back, dealing with anything coming their way – this left GK Catherine Watt with little to do for the remainder of the game.
With 5minutes to play before the full time whistle, Nicole Docherty added herself to the score sheet, as she picked the ball up from the right and a great strike across the keeper finding the bottom corner of the goal. Score, 6-1 to the home side.

Rachael Armit came close to securing a hattrick however she and Bethany Orr had to settle for a brace, each, in the end.

A very good team display from the under 13s in their first competitive league game. From back to front, the Wishaw side played good football and scored some good goals.

2000s progress to LFDA Cup Quarter Final

A comfortable cup win in difficult windy conditions this morning at the Wishaw Sports Centre. First half goals from Ben Campbell (pen) and Jake Glancy saw the team progress against EK Rolls Royce Blue 2-0. There was an early scare when EK were awarded a penalty but it was blasted over the bar. Ben Campbell then made a good run into the box and was fouled. He picked himself up to slot away the penalty low to the keeper's right. The second followed just before half time, Chris Reid fired a shot the keeper could not hold and Jake Glancy was on hand to tap in.

The second half saw more chances for Wishaw but no more goals.
